The original Jarlsberg® is based on a secret Norwegian recipe from 1956 – so secret that only a handful of trusted people know of its whereabouts and custodians.
It all started at the Agricultural University of Norway, when professor Ystgaard and his team started the process of developing a new, unique cheese. It resulted in Jarlsberg®, a new cheese brand and a cheese in a class of its own.
Where do the mysterious holes come from?
The combination of traditional cheese-making and modern technology gives the cheese its thrilling taste and mysterious holes. Jarlsberg® is famous around the world for its distinctive sweet and nutty taste and its large, round holes.
Thanks to its versatility, Jarlsberg® works just as well for cooking as it does for snacking – turning everyday dishes into culinary experiences. The taste and quality of Jarlsberg® gives the cheese an edge; appreciated by both excellent and amateur chefs worldwide.
